Tap water sometimes contains high amounts of calcium, magnesium and other minerals that cause hard-to-remove water spots. In this blog, Renewal by Andersen® of Austin shares how to remove water spots and explains why our replacement windows are easy to keep spot-free.
How to Remove Water Spots
It’s important to remember that the longer the spots remain on the window glass, the harder they are to remove. As soon as you notice water spots on your windows, take steps to remove them. Prepare a solution that contains equal parts of water and white vinegar. Soak a clean towel in the solution, then press the towel onto the spotted areas for about a minute or two. The vinegar’s acidity will soften the mineral deposit. Wipe, press and repeat until the spots disappear. Make sure you dry the window with a rag, then optionally shine the windows with glass cleaner.
Titanium Dioxide Coatings
If your windows are up for replacement, consider investing in glass that has titanium dioxide coatings on the outer surface. Renewal by Andersen custom windows and patio doors are all equipped with High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass that feature such coatings. UV rays from sunlight activate the titanium dioxide layer in a process called photo-catalytic action. Once activated, the titanium dioxide loosens particles above it: water spots, as well as dirt and stains. The next time the windows are washed and wiped properly, water spots will come off easily.
Our High Performance Low-E4 glass packages feature a double-pane assembly, with the panes separated by insulated spacers. This, combined with Fibrex® material frames, results in replacement windows that provide superior energy efficiency. The inside surface of the exterior panel also features a low-emissivity (Low E) coating that blocks UV rays and heat from the sun, while letting visible light through, just like clear glass. This means you can allow as much natural light into your home as you want, while enjoying the level of comfort and energy efficiency that only our replacement windows can provide.
