After any home improvement project, it’s always important to evaluate the quality of your contractor’s work. Today Renewal by Andersen® of Austin shares some red flags that your windows weren’t installed properly.
Caulk is applied to the sides of your windows to prevent water from infiltrating them. The caulking is supposed to smooth and even. If it’s messy, your contractor most likely rushed the caulking process. As an added precaution, shine a flashlight through your windows at night. This should reveal any holes in the caulking or any gaps in the windowsill and frame.
If the caulking process was rushed or your window wasn’t fitted properly, water can easily infiltrate your window. Keep in mind that some signs of moisture damage are subtle. Check if there’s bubbling or peeling paint near the walls surrounding your window. A rotten smell can indicate the presence of mold or rot.
Condensation on the window glass isn’t necessarily a sign of water damage. It just indicates that it’s getting too humid inside your home. If you can’t wipe the condensation off the glass, however, moisture has infiltrated the space between the glass panels through gaps in the seals. Improper installation work is the most likely culprit here.
