Whether you have double-hung or casement windows, regular cleaning is important as dirty windows can prevent natural light from entering your home, while also creating an eyesore. While window cleaning is a task that can be done year-round, one of the best times to get it done is during the fall season.
In this post, Renewal by Andersen® of Austin shares a step-by-step guide to make your window cleaning efforts this fall season a success.
Step #1: Weather
Window cleaning should be done on a cloudy day. Performing the task on a sunny day can cause the cleaning solution to dry on the window too fast, resulting in unsightly streaks on the window glass. In addition, always use a residue-free glass cleaner.
Step #2: Leaks
Since you’re already working on your windows, use this opportunity to check for leaks as well. You can often spot these if you notice the seals in your window are worn out. This is an important step as worn out seals can cause your energy bills to spike.
Step #3: Draperies
If your windows have draperies, remove them during the cleaning process and dust them or give them a good wash. If you have blinds, wiping them down with a damp microfiber cloth should do the trick.
Step #4: Frames and Screens
You can brush the window frames down with a soft bristle brush and vacuum any dust or debris with an extension hose. To clean the window screens, remove them, lay them down on the ground outside and then use a garden hose to give them a good spray. Take the time to look for any small tears that might need to be repaired as well.
